The World Is Not Enough: PART TWO

It's pretty much a non-issue and mostly just an annoyance, but modern movie sequels represent the validation of unquenchable thirst. The dork audience of Marvel movies is a great example, they keep churning out movies because the fans want more, even if it damages the story or brilliance of earlier movies. Star Wars has done the same thing, it seems like no story ever ends, it just changes so they can keep raking in cash at the box office. The studios have decided that they don’t care if it kills the originality of a single good movie, beating a dead horse to a pulp. I can understand why they do it, it makes some serious cash.

The troubling part is how it reflects on our society, immediately checking to see if a sequel is in production as soon as the credits roll, and feeling a sense of relief knowing it’s not the end of the characters adventure. I’m not entirely anti sequel, but I am against destroying a good thing and not letting characters stay in the past where they belong. It’s a great example of the world not being enough, audiences would rather watch regurgitated nonsense over and over, instead of rolling the dice on new perspectives. Every movie at the theater needs to be remade or sequelled mediocrity instead of a mixed bag with a large variance of themes, perspectives, characters, and narratives.

HATING HIM INTO EXISTENCE

Atheists want everyone else to feel the same way as them. To be clear, non-believers are not the same as atheists. Non-believers are mostly regular people, maybe they lean towards god being real or maybe they don’t, but they all respect the order that religion brings and the need for it. Atheists are much different, living in a western society that does not prosecute them for their views, or lack thereof, is simply not enough.

Everyone else must share in the misery and pessimism that surround these odd and outspoken critics of religion. They attack god with such fervor that it almost validates his existence; you don’t have to fight things that aren’t real. Many would argue that Christians are guilty of arguing for the existence of their god in an unsolicited manner, but at least they are arguing for something. Atheists propose no real alternatives except some vague, everchanging hierarchy of moral values. They are welcome to feel however they want, America is a free country, but I would argue that no group pushes an agenda more than these guys.

KILLING KIDS

I am not taking a stance on this one, just making an observation, but one group who is never satisfied with any compromise is the pro-abortion fanatics in the United States. The rest of the western world has figured out how to reach agreements on how old a fetus can be before an abortion is outlawed. But for some reason, there is no way the abortionites would ever give an inch. They argue it is oppressive and sexist to not allow a woman to kill an unborn baby, at pretty much any age (They’re reluctant to admit this). I hope I’m wrong, but I have a feeling the movement for abortion rights has nothing to do with the actual act, but really a politicization trap women are very likely to fall into. I really think that if tomorrow every normal person said “9 months is fine, have at it”, they would be arguing for post-birth abortions immediately. After all, it is incredibly sexist to not allow a woman to kill her toddler if she wants to…

It’s a fact that the world is just not enough. Humans have always had the desire to obtain more, earn more, eat more, fuck more, and take more. Limiting ourselves has never been easy, but it is important to remember to take a step back and realize how amazing the things we DO have are, and how sometimes less is more. “The World Is Not Enough” may never return to its original (and let's face it, fictional) meaning, but focusing less on arbitrarily looting shit from the shelves of life is incredibly important. Let’s honor the actions, innovations, and revolutions that have made the west the best time and place to live in, ever.
